Coming soon
Episode 4 should be available by May 4th (for Episodes 3, 2 and 1, scroll down the page). We’ve got LOTS of ideas for shows — enough to keep us busy for several years. Here are a few topics we’ve got in the works:
- Quiz Show: Jeff and Dave test each other’s knowledge of basic and advanced rules. Do YOU know the answers? (If this is a success, we may hold LIVE shows a la Jeopardy at tourneys and Cons.)
- ASL Widows - Can’t Route with ‘em, can’t Route without ‘em: We’ll talk to wives/girlfriends (or husbands/boyfriends!) to get a glimpse of what goes on in the lives of those who await our return from war.
- History Lesson: We’ll reveal the real history, operation and use of common — and uncommon — ASL weapons. Will it help your ASL play? Maybe. Wear a flack jacket and helmet for this bit.
- Where in the World is that Rule?: We’ll read a snippet from the Rules and leave it to YOU to tell us where it’s from! Leave your answer in the show Comments section. The first person to answer correctly will win . . . 5 minutes of fame! (Sorry, we can’t afford prizes)
- View from the Front: We’ll report directly from ASL tournaments, where the REAL battles are waged.
- Interviews: We’ve got lots of ideas, but if YOU’d like to be interviewed, or if you know someone that would be an interesting guest, send us an email with your suggestion.
- Listener Mail: Send us some and we’ll read it!
- Basic Training: a segment just for newbies
- Mud Wrestling: Just kidding
- VASL review: We’ve never used it, but we’re going to give it a try and let you know how it goes.
- Club Reports: Send us information about your ASL group or club and we’ll read it on the air.
- Lots, LOTS, more. (we don’t want to spoil all the surprises)
- And, of course, all the usual stuff like Favorite Scenarios (email us with YOUR favorite, including the reasons why), What’s in the Box?, MMP news, tourney announcements and more!

I’d like to hear about the preference for each expansion to ASL. For instance, I know I need the rules and Beyond Valour, but what should I be putting at the top of my ASL wish list? What do I need to make sure I have? What would be nice to have? What expansions, modules, add-ons etc. are nice but rarely used?
Also, I’d like to hear about the version differences. If I have original ASL rules, do I need to shell out the bucks for v2? How different are they?
Thanks for the show!
>>Hi Andy. Great questions which I’m sure lots of newer players are asking. In Episode 5 we’ll be starting a series of segments for new players starting with “What do you need to get started with ASL?”.
>>To answer your last part, I played for my first two years using the version 1 rules and had no problem. There are some small differences, but I think mostly the version 2 rules elaborate and clarify certain sections that were vague or confusing in version 1.
>>Thanks for the support!

Great - an ASL podcast.. It’s been the “something” missing. Very nice shows. Keep up the good work. Just last year there was a very spirited discussion (on BGG?) between SL + ASL devotees. From the looks of that - there are still SL fans out there. I’ve also stopped third party purchases - stop the gamble - some great products- and some not so great.. and just too many! I guess I’m more of a collector, as I haven’t committed the time to learn/play (I’ve read the rules a few times over the years) but I do buy the product. Someday.. If you could get an interview w/one/some of the MMP guys - they could be interesting (maybe they could even venture a guess as to how many players are out there..).. Again- great job- keep it up.
>>Thanks for all the input, Eric. We’ve notified MMP that we are on the air, and would love to have someone from there on the show.
>>We hope you find someone nearby willing to take the plunge with you. It’s deep water, but always refreshing. Thanks for listening.

i played my first regular ASL (”Gavin take”) with a grognard friend of mine and i find it very fluid (with bypass and stuff); give us some basics to learn faster if you can…i won that game btw

Listened to all 4 podcasts today. You’re getting better and better each week. I really enjoyed the ASL quiz show. Great banter between the two of you. It’s like Wayne’s Worlds except with wargaming geeks!!
A question for an upcoming episode: Do you each have a favorite nationality that you like to play and why? ie..British because of no cowering, Japanese because of Tank hunter heroes..etc.
You mentioned on one episode about your local club and that you stay in touch with a yahoo website. You should occasionally do a feature on an ASL club in another city and talk about how often they get together and stay in communication. Maybe an interview with a player of that club.
You really do need to get on VASL and do a review!!!! Try it in a regular configuration and then try it using voice software such as “skype”, almost like face to face.
