Episode 7
We recorded this one back in June, but didn’t want to release it too close on the heels of Episode 6.
In this Episode, we check out “What’s in the Box?” (it’s Starter Kit 3!), Dave whips out a list — which he compiled during his most recent re-reading of The Rules — of rules he forgot he knew. Jeff gives a little history lesson at the end of the show. And there’s plenty of the usual madness.
We hope you enjoy it.

Great show guys. I enjoyed the history lesson. The movie Saving Private Ryan as well as the HBO show Band of Brothers also gives some excellent shots of the Garand or Grand (both nomenclatures are correct) in action with the clips being ejected with that familiar “ping” sound.
Spot on about the naval gun caliber descriptions.

Hey, that was great! I really like the rules discussion and how you guys explain things. I had a moment of silence for Jeffs dead ASL boxes. Keep it up! I did miss the ‘favorite scenario’ bit you guys usually do…

I have to admit I have shocked others when I told them I dump/trash/toss out my ASL boxes, I keep all my stuff in binders and plano, the boxes (with all their variety) did nothing but occupy shelf space, so….I dumped them all, thought about putting them up on a list to see if anyone was interested but didn’t bother thinking players were more interested in the components.
I guess I am not alone in that!. Thanks Guys, looking forward to ep 8 eric

Hey guys great show. Just one thought. When a unit goes berserk, doesn’t it have to always move toward the nearest known unit and attempt to attack it in close combat?? Thus a berserk unit would never use Prep Fire.

Again a great show. I was more then shocked about the casual tossing of boxes! After my X-Father-in-law (on wifes mom side) TOSSED out my COB, GH, WOA, CDG, Yanks, Paratroop, HDH and SOF (not to mention my Europa Second Front, First to Fight, A Winters War, Balkan Front, and Fire in the East Scorched Earth games) I HORDE all my game stuff religiously (even the manila envelopes my S&T’s come in).
Great show guys! Is it or could it be possible to throw in some intermediate to advanced stuff as well? Sort of like the Bunker with the Newbie and Veteran hints.

A Foxhole does NOT form a separate Location, but rather a quasi-Location (expanding the official use of the term). http://www.desperationmorale.com/location.pdf
A Berserk unit may fire in the AFPh (but not as opportunity Fire) and in the DFPh/opponent’s MPh, but nay not form multi-location FGs nor fire in PFPh (A15.432, A7.54).

A quick note about those pesky Russian Sherman III(a) counters that Dave mentions as being only found in the SK3 module… for chasing down questions like this, and related ones, I recommend the ASL Armoury, which I believe is compiled by Reid Hutchinson. These are essentially the Chapter N pages from the earlier modules, but extended to include all modules (AH/MMP eventually stopped publishing the Ch N pages at some point, I can’t recall when). It is presented in a nice neat zip file containing pdf or xls files. It can be downloaded here: http://www.xs4all.nl/~cryo/armory.htm
You can also get a list of all mapboards and overlays (including their source modules) as well as all known counter errata from that same site.
Short answer to the question Dave raised about those counters, 6 were printed with SK3 (ids A-F), but another 4 were also printed with Armies of Oblivion (ids A-D), so they are available in the “full” kit. The id letters overlap, but perhaps that is an indication that MMP doesn’t expect veteran ASL players to own the SK modules.
Cheers, Dave
Thanks for the info and the great page to check for vehicle information Dave (and Jeff)
