Episode 11
We’re very happy to be joined this time by ASL veteran David Goldman. Dave talks about his history with gaming, playing ASL, and the trials and tribulations of running the annual “ASL Open” tournament in Chicago.
We also look to see “What’s in the Box” — and it’s something you might find indispensable to your ASL collection.
And this week we sprung open the coffers and blew a wad on new equipment for the studio. We hope you enjoy the improved sound quality.

You guys keep getting better and better. I loved the opener! You are so fun to listen to. I can really hear the new equipment! Rock on, Robin

Great job, guys, and I agree that the sound quality is much improved. I also found the opening of this episode hilarious. I’m really looking forward to hearing your ASLSK scenario analysis. Any idea which scenario you plan to use?
I would also like to hear an episode dedicated to the vehicle rules, as that seems to be the most intimidating part of the rules for me. Keep the episodes coming!

Don’t know the scenario ’til we get there. It might be a SK#3 one. The vehicle rules certainly are intimidating but we will get to them sometime. Dave (and Jeff)

Your show inspired me to go bask and start playing the 1st Edition of ASL. Hope this October show has some Monster Chiller Horror Theatre references from Count Flloyd and his 3D terrors. Nothing is more scary kids than a 180+ page rulebook. Great Job guys.

Another excellent episode!! I have enjoyed all of them and they brighten up my commute.
Having said that, you have also ruined my life!! You introduced me to the C4 corner cutter in the last episode and I promptly bought one via Ebay. It was delivered promptly to the UK and now corner cutting has consumed my evenings. I started doing this when I had a head cold and I can tell you that when you sneeze the corners that you have cut off can go a very long way!!! My wife has been complaining for days that she finds these things everywhere in the living room.
On the subject of the actual cutting itself I find that a shallow angled blade, rather than a straight blade, is easier to control. Also, 6-8 counters is about the limit so that it makes a decent cut.
Anyway, a fantastic podcast that I always look out for.

Hi Stephen. We seem to be well received among the commuting populace. I don’t know what will happen if everyone starts working from home!
Glad you’re like the C4. It’s made my clipping life much easier. Last weekend I decided to clip my untouched “For King and Country” ASL module. I put the C4 inside the box top to keep the cardboard shrapnel from littering the area. As time allowed I would stop by cut a few stacks. By Sunday afternoon I was done and then just had to sort them into the Plano box. Up next is labeling with the newly purchased Brother PT-1950 label maker (http://tinyurl.com/58o29t).
Thanks for taking the time to comment and thank you for listening. If you’re still not feeling better, may I suggest a rigorous regimen of vitamin C and a smooth single-malt scotch, such as Scapa

Sir, Jeff Sir!
Could I recommend the single malt Scotch whisky Talisker - this fine ’spicy’ malt from the Isle of Skye will make clipping a breeze!
It will also aid the fullest understanding possible of the “full” ASL rules.
Unfortunately the effects wear off the following morning, and are replaced with nagging doubts about most things, mainly ASL, but also a curiosity as to what exactly, are these little bits of cardboard all over the living room floor?
Talisker could also leave you with the dreaded side-effect of a thinning wallet! However that’s something us ASL’ers should be used too!
Anyway – enough of the banter – I’ve just poured myself a nice Glenmorangie (another fine malt) and find myself congratulating you on another superb podcast! Honestly these just get better and better – and not just for the wealth of knowledge you are providing us newbies with – they are fun and entertaining in their own rights! I know for sure that if you guys lived around the corner – the malts would always be flowing!
Keep up the great work – and never, ever ditch your opening music! That is sinominous (sorry can’t spell – something to do with the malts I fear!) with your show now! Rock on!
Diolch (Thanks in Welsh)

Awesome, I’m downloading right now. Just in time! I finally caught up to episode 10 Thursday on the drive home from work and was hoping you guys would update soon!

Four things:
1) Great show 2) Great new microphones 3) Could you turn up the volume a little? Turned up all the way it was a little hard to hear while driving down I95 4) This web site is virus-laden. Several trojans try to run every time I go from page to page.

Another outstanding effort boyz. Thank you so much for your commitment(as opposed to committal) and caring. I always find your postings amusing and informative. You both have great voices for radio. Don’t know if you have the faces for radio. You always come across the airwaves as passionate about each episode. Not only that you put out a good episode, but that you include information that matters, and information that helps. I am eagerly awaiting the interview with the MMP rep. I’m sure it will be interesting to listen to and perhaps even a bit enlightening. Do us all a favor and ask the tough questions. I’m sure you are aware (as the MMP rep probably will be also) that MMP is taking heat in some gaming forums over the delays in releasing new ASL product, and re-releasing long OOP product that is vital to the ASL game system. I for one would like to hear why there seems to be such a long wait for pre-order items that have long been past there P#. Anyway, I trust you will come through for us. Thanks again for everything.prymus

We will get your question in to MMP, assuming the tech and the schedules allow it. Our faces are not fit for much other than radio. Thanks for the encouragement! Dave (and Jeff)

Hi Michael. 1. Thanks!! 2. Thanks! 3. Roger that. I’ll kick up the volume another notch. 4. We are finding no viruses or trojans on the site. I’m a computer consultant and run all kinds of malware/virus-aware apps from dozens of computers and have found nothing on the Podbean sites. Is it possibly your computer? Or, can you tell me what you run that is alerting you and I’ll investigate?
Thanks for your comments! We’re recording a new show next week.

Site is ok to me…
Yes please do ask MMP when BV and core modules are going to be reprinted! It absolutely drives me up the wall as a new player attracted by their very own Starter Kits when I cannot find the frickin’ first module anywhere.

Well, I blame you guys and your insidious podcast! Since I discovered the show, I have added Partisan, For King and Country, Pegasus Bridge and Last Hurrah to my collection of the Rule Book, Beyond Valor, Paratrooper, Yanks, and all three starter kits. I have started again to read through the rule book, in hopes of getting up to speed on the full blown rules. Listening to you guys and your guests discuss the game has really gotten me fired up to stick with it until I figure it out this time.
Now, to find somewhere safe to burn the boxes - what type of fire pit do you recommend? (Just kidding - I hang onto all the boxes… I do throw away the plastic, though!) I hope you’re happy!

catching up on these lattest episdes…
this was a great interview with David
is it possible for David to publish his stats from this ASL Open tournament ? a kind of top 10 of the most played scenarios ? a selection of the well regarded third party scenarios would be neat too
thanks
