Episode 21: Lighten Up!
Now that we’ve spent a couple of episodes talking about tanks, we thought it time to take a look at a lighter topic — what the lonely soldier could do to combat those nasty AFV’s. With that in mind, this installment examines the ins and outs of Light Anti Tank Weapons (aka LATW’s). Join us for an in-depth quiz show that is sure to inform and delight. So sit down, keep your hand near the buzzer . . . and Lighten Up!

Another entertaining and informative show, guys. Of course, the discussion concerning whether or not pinned units may fire a panzerfaust has me scouring the web and rule book for clarification… Still, time spent in the ASLRB is knowledge gained, right?
I have recently found a couple of players willing to teach me the ropes on VASL, so I hope to be getting up to speed with game play soon. One of them is only an hour or so away, so I may even be able to get in some face to face play soon. I have even downloaded and installed Skype, so I can ask rules questions while I play. Now, if I can only convince my employer that ASL is important enough to justify taking time off during our busiest part of the year (any/all suggestions appreciated!).
Your show rekindled my interest in the game. It has kept me interested while reminding me of what I had previously learned, and even helped me understand a few new rules along the way. Keep up the great work! Oh, and I really enjoy the opening humor segments. They really get the show started off in the right mood. Now, post some more SK playthroughs, and more Newbie-Do episodes!
Ad lastly, for those like me who love charts and play aids, Mark Pitcavage has a great LATW Play Aid on his Desperation Morale web site:

Tons of other useful stuff there as well. Keep them coming, guys!

For the record, it appears that a pinned squad may fire a panzerfaust, but cannot avoid the backblast penalty by taking the +2 DRM. It must suffer the Desperation Penalty of a 1 FP attack on the IFT using only the colored dr of that TH DR.
Also, if a 6 is rolled on the panzerfaust availability check, a pinned unit is broken (where an unpinned unit would only be pinned). I’m learning…

Gents,
The whole “slow down to say Hakkaa Paalle” discussion cracked me up!
Keep up the good work.
Thanks Casta. We’ll try!

Thanks, Cam, for setting the record straight on a pinned panzerfaust-er. You saved us from having to look in the rule book this month. Sweet!
We’re trying to think of ways in which to trick — er, convince — Mr. Pitcavage into being a guest on the show. I know — perhaps we can convince him the show is a valuable asset to the ASL community . . . Naw, he’d never believe that!
And as always, thank you for the nice comments.

Cam,
I can not say enough good things about that LATW play aid. I think I use this one the most.

Thank you for another great show! I think this one was the best yet. It captured my interest from beginning to end. I’d never heard of the panzerfaust klein before so I learned something new. This site has some good photos of the weapon:

Apparently, you can buy one for $90! A reproduction though, but if your street is plagued by Russian tanks that keep taking your parking spot then perhaps it might be a worthy investment. Just be careful of the backblast!
Thanks again for all your efforts,
Robert from Scotland
